THE BROOKLYN BAZAAR FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 16TH ANNUAL EVENT WITH HIP HOP 50TH ANNIVERSARY!
Brooklyn, NY – August 12th, 2023 – The Brooklyn Bazaar Music and Arts Festival (TBBF) is thrilled to announce its 16th annual celebration, set to take place on August 12, 2023, in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. This year’s festival promises to be a milestone event, honoring the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop culture while unveiling a groundbreaking collaboration with BLACK GIRLS ROCK! (BGR!) to foster a diverse and inclusive experience for all attendees. In partnership with the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), this year’s festival is also an official Lift Off! Cannabis NYC tour stop.
The Brooklyn Bazaar Festival has a rich history of enlivening Clinton Hill with a vibrant celebration of music, visual arts, food, and culture. Spearheaded by Indi-rock music artist Bazaar Royale, the festival has grown from a grassroots block party into a cultural beacon that attracts talent and audiences from across the five boroughs and beyond. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, The Brooklyn Bazaar remains committed to fostering creativity and unity within the community.
The festival has a legacy of hosting renowned artists including Fishbone, Meshell N’degeocello, Vernon Reid, Lil Mama, and Elle Varner, alongside emerging Brooklyn talents like Greg Banks, Young Paris, and Jet Fighter Watson. In 2021, founder Bazaar Royale was commended by then Borough President, now NYC Mayor, Eric Adams, cementing the festival’s cultural significance.
This year’s collaboration with BLACK GIRLS ROCK! (BGR!) promises to be fresh and vibrant. BGR! is known for its compelling productions, including the televised BLACK GIRLS ROCK awards and the annual BGR! FEST in Washington, DC. The partnership will feature a lineup of esteemed Black women artists and thought leaders, including BGR!’s founder, DJ Beverly Bond, ensuring a diverse and inclusive experience for all festival-goers.
Furthermore, The Brooklyn Bazaar is proud to announce the FIRST EVER New York City approved Cannabis Growers Showcase (CGS) produced in partnership with Flowerhouse New York, NYS Cannabis Connect and The Dope Connection.. “The Cypher” CGS will feature New York state-licensed cannabis growers and processors showcasing legal New York cannabis products to consumers at the festival, where attendees can purchase those same products from New York state-licensed retailers. NYC-based licensees slated to participate include licensed retailer Statis Cannabis Co. and All-in-one Processing. This groundbreaking state-wide initiative is set to mark a new era for the cannabis industry.
The kick-off event on August 12th (sponsored by Union Square Travel Agency) will be an extraordinary celebration of 50 years of Hip Hop culture featuring exciting panel presentations, including “Ladies First: A Dialogue on Women’s Influence in Hip Hop” with a diverse mix of women trailblazers in hip hop including British Born-Brooklyn based DJ Misbehavior and Celebrity DJ Beverly Bond.
The BLACK GIRLS ROCK! Women, Weed & Wealth® initiative will present a live panel moderated by prominent New York cannabis advocate Mar Fitzgerald also featuring Founding Director of Cannabis NYC, Dasheeda Dawson, President and Co-Founder of Union Square Travel Agency: A Cannabis Store – Arana Hankin-Biggers, and Jahmila Edwards the Associate Director at District Council 37.
Women, Weed & Wealth® is a dedicated hub designed to empower, connect, and educate visionary women who are carving their niche in the burgeoning cannabis industry, with the mission to foster a community that champions women, celebrate their contributions, and offer a supportive network for continued innovation, collaboration and success.
The Festival will also feature musical performances by Legendary NYC band – Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber – with a special tribute to Black Rock Coalition Founder Greg Tate, Ghetto Metal creator – Bazaar Royale, 300 Entertainment recording artist singer/songwriter – Kenya Vaun, Faith Tabernacle Choir, R&B pop artist Maya Nichole, Ziearre The Good Kid, Laila! guitarist – Michelle Marie, DJ Beverly Bond, DJ Aktive, DJ Misbehaviour, Belinda Becker, Saint James Joy, and many others, making this year’s Brooklyn Bazaar Festival an unmissable event for music, arts, and culture enthusiasts of all ages.
